The following is a list of questions and ideas that you may want to consider as you search for an educator preparation program. Remember, a good program will be happy to answer your questions and provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision.
- Shop around- Contact more than one program.
- Schedule a visit with the licensure officer or the program director.
- Check the cost- Make sure you get a clear statement of the program tuition and fees.
- Ask the program about its students: How many students complete the program? How many get jobs because of the training they received?
- Does the program offer any type of job placement services for its graduates?
- Does your program have flexible scheduling for mid-career professionals such as on-line courses, weekend and/or night classes?
- What are their policies surrounding accepting transfer credits?
- Do they waive some requirements based on past professional experiences?
- For those seeking a Master's in Education degree, you should ask if the Master's program fulfill the requirements for the Massachusetts Professional license.
