Financial Literacy Pilot Program

Purpose: The purpose of this competitive, state-funded Financial Literacy Pilot Program Grant is to support high schools in the Gateway municipalities to plan and pilot financial literacy programs that engage high school students in developing personal financial knowledge and skills for college and career readiness. Specifically, this first-year planning grant is for teams of educators to work together: to develop a financial literacy program that aligns with the 2011 Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for Mathematics and the Economic Education Council's National Standards for Financial Literacy to be implemented in the next school year (2013-14).

Result of Funding: In year one, this Financial Literacy grant is designed to provide funds to plan for the building of financial literacy pilot programs in eleven high schools in ten districts. It is intended that teams of educators and partners work together to propose elements of a new financial literacy program, describe the conditions/resources necessary for piloting such a program, and to define the contributions/responsibilities of high school staff members and other partners for all aspects of the program.
