Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2014

Turnaround Sustainability Grant
Fund Code: 311/221

Purpose: The purpose of this state grant program is to provide support for Level 4 schools in their efforts to sustain high priority turnaround practices and programs with demonstrated effectiveness.
Priorities: Priority will be given to eligible Level 4 schools that are able to identify and prioritize- through a compelling academic return on investment analysis- those programs and practices that are most essential to sustain school improvement efforts.
Eligibility: Level 4 schools in Boston Public Schools receiving funds in Cohort I of School Redesign Grant and that will not be receiving School Redesign Grant Funds in FY 2014.
Funding: Funding for the grant will come from Title I Part A Section 1003 (a), Race to the Top, and state school improvement funds. Each school will be eligible for up to $110,000. The total allocation is not to exceed $542,000.
Fund Use: Fund use must be consistent with applicable state requirements. All expenditures must go towards turnaround sustainability efforts, including the continuation of high priority programs and practices with demonstrated academic return on investment. Funds may be budgeted at both the district school level.

Unallowable expenditures include:
  1. Contract buyouts;
  2. Capital expenses; and
  3. Purchase of technology, computer software or hardware, unless a compelling case can be made for how these materials are necessary for turnaround planning efforts.
All expenditures will be closely reviewed as they relate to the priorities of this grant opportunity.
