ESE/ACLS Program Monitoring-Counselor Interview Questions-2006-2010

  1. Describe your ABE/counseling experience (including length of time @ Program).

  2. Describe your job responsibilities/workload. (IPQ 7)

  3. How many hours are you paid per week? How many paid weeks/year? Rate of pay? Fringe benefits? (IPQ 7)

  4. When you were hired, did you receive an orientation to the Program/job, and a copy of the Program's written policies and procedures (including grievance procedures)? Please explain. (IPQ 7)

  5. Describe the counseling services provided to ABE students. (IPQ 3)

  6. What sort of native language support do students receive (e.g., bilingual counseling, information printed in multiple languages)? (IPQ 3)

  7. Describe how counseling activities and counseling record keeping are implemented and coordinated. (IPQ 3)

  8. On average, how often does each student meet with a counselor on staff? Is there a posted schedule stating dates and times that counseling is available to students? Please explain. (IPQ 3)

  9. Describe (a) the processes for student recruitment, intake, assessment, placement, and orientation (including whether there's a student handbook), and (b) to what extent these processes are effective. (IPQ 3)

  10. What is the Program's attendance policy and how is it monitored? How (else) does the Program promote and support student retention? (IPQ 3)

  11. How are student goals identified, reported, revisited and updated? How are follow-up services provided to students to determine goal attainment? (IPQ 2)

  12. When and how are students referred to other agencies and services? (IPQ 3)

  13. Describe and quantify your staff development activities during the past year (e.g., SABES workshops, mailings, website; 15-hour New Staff Orientation if applicable; annual Network Conference; ADA compliance training; in-house trainings).   14. Describe (a) your involvement in program planning and evaluation, (b) whether/how they are linked with individual staff development, and (c) to what degree you participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings. (IPQ 6)

  2. Have you developed a standard Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Orientation for new staff? If so, please share with us an outline of it or some of the topics covered in the training. If you use a video presentation, please share with us what information is covered in the video. (IPQ 3)
