ESE/ACLS Program Monitoring-Student Interview Questions-2006-2010

(Introduce self and others, state purpose of visit, make students feel comfortable)

  1. How did you find out about the Program?

  2. How long have you been in the Program?

  3. Before you were placed in class, did you have an interview with someone in this program? Did you take an exam?

  4. Did you have an orientation when you started at this Program? (IPQs 1 & 2)

  5. How many hours a week do you come to class (days, time)? (IPQ 1)

  6. Is there a policy for attendance (rules for coming to class)? (IPQ 3)

  7. Are you making progress/Is the Program helping you? How do you know? Can you give examples of life changes (at home, work, in community)? (IPQ 2)

  8. What are some of the reasons that you come to this program? (Interviewer can ask for examples of specific reasons for studying English) (IPQ 2)

  9. What are you learning or studying in this Program? What books or other materials (film?) do you use? Do you use computers? Have you been on any field trips? Have you had any outside speakers come to your class? (IPQ 1)

  10. Is the teacher helping you reach your goal(s)? (IPQs 1 & 2)

  11. In class, do you have projects that you and other students work on in groups? Do you sometimes work alone in class? Do you work with a partner or two other students sometimes? Please explain. (IPQ 1)

  12. Did you have to pay money to study in this Program (e.g., a fee, a donation, paying for a book, folder, etc.)? (IPQ 1)

  13. Who helps you (who can you talk with) when you have a question or a problem (e.g., attendance problems, childcare or work issue)? Do you ever meet with anyone to talk about your educational plan/goals, what you'll do after this Program? (IPQ 3)

  14. Do you ever evaluate your class or this Program (tell what you like/don't like)? Does your teacher ask you for your ideas about class activities? (Interviewer gives examples.) Please explain. (IPQ 5)
