Program Description:
Based on the I-BEST Complementary/Supportive Team Teaching model, the BALC provides contextualized ESOL instruction and civics education and the AHC provides a 90-hour Supportive Home Health Aide (SHHA) training to BALC ESOL students. The SHHA training consists of four certificate granting steps: Homemaker (40 hours), Personal Care Homemaker (22 hours), Home Health Aide (15 hours), and Supportive Home Health Aide (13 hours). The AHC workforce training instructor and BALC ESOL instructor will adapt the SHHA curriculum as necessary to address the needs of ESOL students. AHC provides funding for the workforce training instructor and agrees to offer employment to all students who successfully complete the SHHA curriculum. For the CNA portion of the program, the Brockton Area Workforce Investment Board (BAWIB) will provide funding for an Academy for Health Care Training (Academy) instructor and provide its clinical laboratory space. A BALC ESOL instructor will similarly collaborate with an Academy instructor on the curriculum and co-teach the class. The BAWIB will also sponsor a speed networking event where graduates will meet with health care employers.
