Program Description:
The BPS will provide contextualized ESOL instruction. Madison Park will make its Department of Public Health-approved clinical area and curriculum available for the program to use. Graduates will do their clinical rotations at Stonehedge, which will also consider students for employment. The contextualized workforce training class will be co-taught by an ESOL instructor and a registered nurse. Topics covered will include infection prevention, safety and body mechanics, positioning and lifting patients, and vital signs. Students will practice administering first aid and CPR, using AEDs, taking blood pressure, and applying bandages and dressings. OSHA regulations and workplace safety are also curriculum lessons. The ESOL and nursing instructor will have common planning time and will identify instructional strategies (sentence frames, vocabulary instruction) and activities (think-write-pair-share, role play, partner reading) that will develop language skills, content knowledge, and industry-based skills.
