Program Description:
NECC will contextualize and customize its Accounting and Bookkeeping Fundamentals Certificate program for English language learners. The Fundamentals of Accounting and Bookkeeping (A&B) I and II courses cover accounting system terms and concepts, debits and credits, and the accounting cycle. In the Computerized Accounting and Bookkeeping using QuickBooks I and II (QuickBooks) courses, students will learn how to use the financial software and apply concepts learned in the A&B course. The Accounting and Bookkeeping classes will be team-taught and additionally offer math, digital literacy, and workshops in customer service, including business ethics. The ESOL instructor will assume a support role and assist students in the A&B and QuickBooks classes. She will additionally contextualize English literacy instruction with civics education and reinforce skills taught in the A&B and QuickBooks classes, including terminology and vocabulary. Employer partners will provide authentic workplace documents and forms for classroom use. Successful completers can earn between 3-6 credits toward an NECC Associate Degree in Accounting or Business.
