Program Description:
WALC and Worcester Technical High School faculty will adapt the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's Chapter 74 Machine Tool Technology program, which incorporates level 1 of the Manufacturing Advancement Center Workforce Innovation Collaborative's (MACWIC) Applied Manufacturing Technology Pathway curriculum, for English language learners. In addition, WALC faculty will contextualize ESOL classes to the advanced manufacturing industry. The program will also draw upon the Massachusetts Community Colleges and Workforce Development Transformation Agenda Adult Secondary Education Curriculum for Advanced Manufacturing. MACWIC Level 1 consists of Shop Safety, Shop Math, Metrology, Blueprint Reading, and Work Readiness Skills. NIMS modules include: Measurement, Materials, & Safety; Job Planning, Benchwork, & Layout; Drill Press Skills I; Manual Milling Skills; Manual Lathe Skills: Turning Between Centers; and Manual Lathe Skills: Turning Chucking Skills.
