Target Audience: New ADA Coordinators
An ADA Coordinator must attend at least one workshop on any disability topic each year and share the information learned with colleagues. This orientation is strongly recommended as the starting point for professional development for new ADA Coordinators. Experienced ADA Coordinators who need a review of ADA basic information are invited to attend.

This session will highlight the major tenets of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and clarify the rights and responsibilities of adult education programs as well as individuals with disabilities. Participants will identify policies and procedures that can be used to provide equal access, program modifications, and reasonable accommodations in all aspects of their programs and services. Actual case studies will be provided to assist participants in applying ADA concepts. The application of Universal Design as an additional method of improving access to adult education programs will also be discussed.
Learning Objectives
To identify the general requirements of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and processes to provide accommodations and program modifications for adults with disabilities.
To articulate the rights and responsibilities of adult education programs and adult students under the ADA, Section 504 or the Rehabilitation Act, and IDEA.
To identify aspects of Universal Design that can be incorporated in adult education to increase access to programs and services for persons with and without disabilities.
