Race to the Top and ARRA Updates
Race to the Top Updates
Massachusetts is developing a competitive proposal to apply for funding through the federal Race to the Top competition, which asks states to focus on four assurances: standards and assessments, great teachers and leaders, school turnaround and data systems. Massachusetts is poised to receive more than $100 million through this competition, if we are successful. Please return to this page regularly for updates on our progress, public meetings, and to download presentations as we move through this labor intensive process. If you would like to submit a comment or have any questions please send them by email to rttt@doe.mass.edu.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Updates
Massachusetts is poised to receive a significant amount of money through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) over the next several months, and this page has been set up to provide districts with the most up-to-date information available. According to the U.S. Department of Education, all ARRA funds are meant to be spent quickly to save and create jobs; used to improve student achievement through school improvement and reform, tracked accurately, with both uses and results reported publicly, and invested wisely to minimize the 'funding cliff' associated with commitments that cannot be sustained once the funding stream ends. Federal guidance and details are posted on the USED website at http://www.ed.gov/policy/gen/leg/recovery/implementation.html. For more information, contact Associate Commissioner Jeffrey Wulfson.
