Partnership Assessment

Building and sustaining effective school-community partnerships requires dedicated time and ongoing attention to the collaborative process. We encourage you to consider and answer these questions verbally and in writing, during initial planning stages as well as periodically throughout the partnership efforts. This list is not comprehensive, but it is designed to help partners to focus on, assess, and improve the quality of your collaborative efforts.

Has the Collaboration/Partnership Done the Following?

  • Created a clear, shared vision that can be articulated by all involved?

  • Identified specific goals/outcomes to achieve based on the vision?

  • Researched, assessed, and identified challenges to reaching the vision?

  • Established a clear organizational structure? Agreed upon the roles that individual partners will play, and ensured that all partners understand and accept the responsibilities of those roles?

  • Engaged a broad range of members including leaders committed to the partnership who have power to legitimize its role and represent the school and the community?

  • Identified and mapped local assets including individuals, associations, and institutions? See attached 'Community Asset Inventory.'

  • Developed strategies that make use of partners' strengths and identified community assets?

  • Prioritized strategies?

  • Created an action plan that outlines who does what and by when?

  • Determined specific, short-term outcomes?

  • Determined gaps in assets or resources?

  • Used data to measure program effectiveness?

  • Mobilized support where needed?

  • Created a mechanism to ensure ongoing reflection and learning regarding the strengths and challenges of the partnership?

  • Created ways to measure and celebrate success?
