FY04 Report to the Legislature

State Funded Academic Support Programs
Line Item 7061-904
January 29, 2004

Pursuant to the fiscal year 2004 state budget line item 7061-9404 - which funds academic support programs for students in the classes of 2003, 2004, and 2005 who have taken and not yet passed the 10th grade English language arts and mathematics MCAS tests required for high school graduation - the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education respectfully submitted a report in collaboration with the Board of Higher Education on remedial programs for students from the class of 2003 who had not earned their competency determinations by June 30, 2003.

The Download PDF Document  Download MS EXCEL Document enclosed report includes available information, by provider, on the number of members of the graduating class of 2003, who are participating in programs funded by the aforementioned line item, including students attending classes at institutions of public higher education offering these programs.

The

information requested by the line item, regarding the number of these students who have passed the MCAS assessment and attained a competency determination after having received services from these programs, is not yet available. Some of the participating students were eligible to take the November 2003 retest, and scores from students who took this test as well as the March and summer 2004 tests will be available for a subsequent report.
