The Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education
Educator Evaluation: Evaluating Educator Impact on Student Learning
The special meeting on June 27 will include a follow-up to the special meeting on educator evaluation that the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education held on May 23. This follow-up is intended to provide an opportunity for the Board to hear a more in-depth description of the aspects of the Commonwealth's educator evaluation framework related to evaluating educator impact on student learning, growth, and achievement. We will hear from a panel of state teacher association leaders, researchers, and policymakers. Board members will have time to engage with the panelists, Department staff, and each other on the accomplishments and challenges of implementing these aspects of the Massachusetts educator evaluation framework.
The panelists include the following confirmed participants (as of June 10, 2016):
- Henry Braun, Director of the Center for the Study of Testing, Evaluation and Education Policy, Lynch School of Education, Boston College
- Thomas Gosnell, President, American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts
- Barbara Madeloni, President, Massachusetts Teachers Association
- Martin West, Associate Professor, Harvard Graduate School of Education
Senior Associate Commissioner Heather Peske and Craig Waterman, of the Office of Educator Effectiveness, will be at the Board meeting on June 27 to answer your questions.
