The Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education

Update on Educator Evaluation

To:
Members of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education
From:
Mitchell D. Chester, Ed.D., Commissioner
Date:
October 14, 2016

Last month, I reported to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education on the progress of our ongoing work, in consultation with the field, to revise the Educator Evaluation regulations to address concerns about the separate student impact rating. My staff and I have been meeting with stakeholders, including the leadership of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators Association, the Massachusetts Elementary School Principals Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the American Federation of Teachers-MA. These meetings are ongoing and I appreciate the feedback we have received. We will continue the discussions with stakeholders, with the goal of bringing proposed amendments to the Educator Evaluation regulations to the Board in November. I will update the Board at the October 25 meeting.
