Summary of Massachusetts Student Data

Our incoming commissioner, Mitchell Chester, requested a brief summary of student enrollment and outcomes data to help him prepare for his arrival next month. The summary covers these topics:

• Orienting information on schools, districts, grade-level enrollment, etc.
• MCAS results from 2004 to 2007 for English language arts, mathematics, and science
• Composite performance index data on MCAS performance by subgroup
• Competency determination rates for the classes of 2003 through 2009
• NAEP results for 2005 and 2007
• Grade retention rates
• Annual dropout rates
• Cohort graduation rates
• College readiness information

I thought this information would also be useful to the Board, particularly our newer members, so I have enclosed the summary    as information in this month's packets. I hope you find it helpful.
