Council Statement

We have a large Advisory Council with extraordinary expertise from Early Childhood to Higher Education, with nurses, health educators, physical educators, school psychologists and counselors, other health specialists, and representation from other state agencies. A major project during the 2006-2007 school year was the development of "A Guide to Implementing Your District's Wellness Policy," Download PDF Document  Download MS WORD Document a brochure outlining steps that schools and communities can take in support of the wellness policy that all districts were required to develop under Section 204 of the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004. The Advisory Council advocated with the Commissioner and Board of Education for an updating and revision of the 1999 Massachusetts Comprehensive Health Curriculum Framework. Also, the Council provided feedback and advice to Department of Elementary and Secondary Education staff on several aspects of the Coordinated School Health Program workplan.
