Gay/Straight Alliances: A Student Guide
July 15, 1995
Dear Student:
Thank you for your interest in Gay/Straight Alliances.
This resource guide is for you, individuals or groups of students who want to improve your school by making it safer for gay and lesbian students. One way to do this is by organizing a Gay/Straight Alliance in your school, one kind of support group for gay, lesbian and heterosexual students.
Most of this guide came from ideas, suggestions and experiences of students and staff in Massachusetts schools who are eager to share their stories with others. I hope you will find their advice helpful and that you, in turn, will write the Safe Schools Program for Gay and Lesbian students with your stories.
Working together we can help make schools safer for all students.
Sincerely,
Robert V. Antonucci
Commissioner of Education

Finally, this guide would not have been possible without the assistance of Michael Kozuch and the Safe Schools Program intern, Naomi Reid.
