Changing the Scene:
Improving the School Nutrition Environment

Students are flunking healthy eating! This session will provide school decision-makers with the tools to evaluate and improve their school's nutrition environment. Strategies and resources to help "change the scene" in your school will be provided.

During this session, participants were given copies of a new resource developed by the US Department of Agriculture. USDA has collaborated with 16 organizations to develop Changing the Scene: Improving the School Nutrition Environment. This action kit can be used at the state and local levels to educate decisionmakers about the role school environments play in helping students meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. It can also be used to help them be motivated to take action that will contribute to sound nutrition and physical activity patterns for today's students. For more information regarding this kit, please consult the Team Nutrition and Training Program website. stopline
