FY2020 Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Training Opportunities, August–December, 2019

To:Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Sponsors
From:Robert Leshin, Director
Office for Food and Nutrition Programs
Date:August 8, 2019

As required by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Office for Food and Nutrition Programs will provide training opportunities to CACFP sponsoring organizations on program regulations and operations for FY20. This memo includes a detailed list of training events scheduled for the first quarter of FY20 (ending 12/31/2019). Additional memos will be distributed each quarter with details and registration links for training events held during that time period.

The following training events are currently available for registration:

  • CACFP Application Overview Webinar: This 30-minute webinar provides a brief overview of the CACFP application, including all required components and important updates. It is highly recommended that a representative from each sponsoring organization attend one session to facilitate timely and accurate application submission.

  • CACFP Review and Updates Webinar: This webinar will provide a review of all recent memos from both USDA and DESE which impact the way sponsors operate their programming. It is highly recommended that a representative from each sponsoring organization attend one session to ensure compliance with all program requirements.

  • CACFP- Back to Basics: These in-person training events will provide a comprehensive look into the operation of the CACFP from application and eligibility, through claiming and monitoring. This training is a perfect opportunity for staff new to CACFP to become familiar with all aspects of CACFP operation. However, all sponsors would benefit from attending one of these training events to ensure compliance with program requirements.
    • This year, the trainings will be specific to the different CACFP program types; please only register for the training event that correlates to your sponsored site types.
    • If a sponsor has an open Corrective Action Plan (CAP) from a past review, they are required to attend one of these trainings.

  • CACFP Eligibility Series Webinars: This series of webinars will review the requirements and forms necessary for establishing eligibility in different CACFP program types. These trainings will provide detailed overview of what is required for assessing eligibility, where to gather the necessary information, and how to complete all the forms accurately.
    • Each webinar will be dedicated to a specific Sponsor and program type; please only register for the event(s) which apply to your sponsorship.

Registration is required for all trainings as space is limited. Unregistered participants will be accommodated based on available space and are not guaranteed participation in any training.

Any questions about identifying the appropriate training sessions to attend can be directed to Shannon Raymond.

For registration assistance please contact Marisol Montes or by telephone at 781-338-6480. You will receive confirmation of your training registration via email.
