Safe And Drug Free Schools

Funding is no longer available through the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Grant (NCLB Title IVA). These grants funded activities to support local schools and communities programs to prevent violence around schools; prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs; involve parents; and coordinate with related federal, state, and community efforts and resources. Programs were required to be based on principles of effectiveness: objective analysis of need; goals and measurable objectives (with assistance of local advisory council); proven and effective strategies; and ongoing program evaluation.

For information on related initiatives, see the Department's Safe and Healthy Learning Environments web pages.
