A technical assistance kit for educators produced by the Learning Support Services Cluster The technical assistance kit that follows is addressed to school Health Coordinators of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The John Stalker Insititute of Food and Nutrition

The John C. Stalker Institute is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Stalker Institute is a collaborative effort between the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Nutrition Programs and Services, and Framingham State College to provide educational opportunities for school and other child nutrition professionals.

These professional development opportunities available through the John C. Stalker Institute address the various aspects of administering Child Nutrition Programs and addressing nutrition, nutrition education and related health education issues. Program fees are kept reasonable through support from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Nutrition Programs and Services Professional Development & Training funds, US Department of Agriculture Team Nutrition Program and Framingham State College. Participants in the courses that are directly working on Child Nutrition Programs may, as funds are available, utilize school lunch revolving account funds to pay for the fees.

The University of Massachusetts Extension
Nutrition Education Program

ServSafe is a comprehensive food sanitation training program, developed by the National Restaurant Association (NRA). This UMass program is designed for school foodservice personnel, congregate meal site staff and other food workers or food regulatory officials who serve high-risk populations such as children and the elderly. Upon successful completion of an examination, participants will receive certification from the NRA.
Registration Deadline is two weeks prior to the start of the class.

FEE: $120 (includes: textbook, teaching materials, certification exam, digital food thermometer, and the Massachusetts Food Code.) Make check payable to: University of Massachusetts.
