calendar icon Ethics Training

We are pleased to announce that we are offering training from the Office of Campaign and Political Finance and the State Ethics Commission designed to help avoid problems. We have set up a number of training sessions starting in September so that you can choose an ideal time given your work schedule. This 3-hour training is mandatory for all staff of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Topics that will be covered include:

•Office of Campaign and Political Finance:
How the campaign finance law relates to public employees, public buildings, and public resources. How public employees can be involved in political activity, if they choose to do so, and stay on the right side of these laws.

•State Ethics Commission:
How to spot issues and avoid problems under the conflict of interest law, which restricts the conduct of municipal, county and state officials and employees with respect to receiving gifts, outside employment, contracting with the public employer, acting on matters in which family members and business associates have a financial interest, leaving government to work for other organizations that conduct business with the town, county or commonwealth, and avoiding appearances of conflicts of interest.

These sessions will review how the laws on campaign and political finance and the state conflict of interest law affect you as a state employee. The trainers will provide guidance and answer your questions so that you are able to avoid potential problems. The training will also provide you with valuable contact information should you need to follow up on any specific issues.
