calendar icon An Orientation to Educational Stability for Homeless and Foster Care Students

This orientation will provide new Homeless Education Liaisons, Foster Care Points of Contact, district staff, and providers who support homeless and foster care students, with an introduction and training to the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act and the Foster Care Provisions of Title I Part A as reauthorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act.

The agenda will cover:

• The definition of homelessness;
• Identifying and serving homeless students;
• The educational rights of homeless students, including transportation;
• The role of the homeless education liaison;
• Accessing local service providers and community resources;
• The definition of foster care;
• The educational rights of students in foster care, including transportation;
• The role of the foster care point of contact; and
• Questions & Answers.
