From 1990-2011, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Department), in partnership with Learn and Serve America, offered grants to support activities to plan, implement and sustain quality service-learning practice in schools. While funding for this grant program was eliminated from the federal budget in 2011, the Department continues to support the use of this teaching and learning methodology through training, technical assistance, and as an encouraged strategy in other grant programs and initiatives.
