Annual Service-Learning Principal Leader Award
The Community Service-Learning (CSL) Advisory Council to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education is pleased to announce the Annual Massachusetts Service-Learning Principal Leader Award. This honor provides recognition to an outstanding principal committed to promoting service-learning as a teaching methodology that connects school-based curriculum with students' service in the community.
The CSL Advisory Council will present one award to a Massachusetts principal dedicated to CSL as a strategy for student engagement, and for school, district and community improvement at the Annual Statewide Service-Learning Conference on May 7, 2009 at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
Nomination Process
A Superintendent, Teacher, Curriculum/CSL Coordinator, Community Partner or Student is asked to submit a letter of recommendation that addresses the following:
A. How the nominee supports service-learning district-wide. Include a brief description of the school's current service-learning program that highlights: the number of teachers and students engaged in CSL, a brief example of CSL practice, examples of any policies/procedures that serve to promote, expand and/or sustain CSL in the district.
B. How the nominee fosters strong community connections and innovative strategies for engaging students.
C. How the nominee acknowledges individuals responsible for program success.
Nominations received no later than 5pm on March 3, 2009 will be eligible for review by the CSL Advisory Committee.
