Leadership Development
Leadership Development is the process of cultivating the leadership skills and potential of all staff by integrating all available human resources to achieve district goals and advance student learning.
Three necessary components of leadership development include: succession planning, career development, and distributed leadership. Succession planning involves identifying and developing potential internal candidates for key leadership positions, including Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum Directors, Principal/Assistant Principal, Teacher Leaders, etc. Career development involves ongoing discussions with all members of the district to identify relevant skills, interests, and opportunities for leadership growth. Finally, distributed leadership involves the careful and purposeful delegation of key functions and tasks to develop internal staff leadership experience and skills.
As part of the SAELP initiative, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has organized trainings, resources, and materials to support the different component of leadership development. Resources are available below.
