PST Implementation

The Professional Standards for Teachers (PSTs) define the pedagogical and other professional knowledge and skills required of all teachers. These PSTs and indicators are used by Sponsoring Organizations in designing their teacher preparation programs and in preparing their teacher candidates. The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) approved updated PSTs as of January 2014. Full implementation is expected by September 1, 2016.

All organizations are required to submit an Implementation Plan to DESE by July 31, 2015. For organizations under review during the 2015-2016 year, Implementation Plans are due by Wednesday, Sept 30th.

In support of organizations' efforts to realign programs with the 2014 PSTs, DESE has partnered with the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) to provide technical assistance to any provider interested in participating in the Alignment Working Groups. Key resources are linked below, a full set of materials, information and tools will be available via the PST Implementation Portal. All organizations are provided with log-ins for secure access. Please contact Chris Clinton at cclinton@niet.org with questions.
