EdTech 2001 Report
March 5, 2002
Dear Educators, Parents, and Other Interested Parties:
I am pleased to share with you this report, EdTech 2001 , which includes findings from the data submitted electronically by school districts in 2001. This year's report focuses on the progress districts have made in meeting the Local Technology Plan Benchmark Standards for the Year 2003. These standards, developed in 2000 by the Department in consultation with a group of district technology specialists, represent the minimum conditions that should be in place in order for technology to play an appropriate role in helping to raise student achievement.
As this report shows, our state has continued to make progress in improving technology access for educators and students. Most classrooms now have high-speed connections to the Internet, providing greater opportunities to enhance student learning with technology. This report also examines several other conditions that are critical to the successful use of technology in the classroom: technology professional development, curriculum integration support, and technical support.
We look forward to continue working with you in partnership toward our mutual goal of providing high-quality educational technology for all students.
Sincerely,
David P. Driscoll
Commissioner of Education
