Sixteen Assistive Technology Grants were awarded in the 1999-2000 school year. The grants support school districts and collaboratives to form SWAT (School Wide Assistive Technology) Teams, or comprehensive teams of educational personnel. The SWAT Teams are trained to conduct assistive technology assessments and design appropriate classroom environments using state-of-the-art assistive technologies so that all students, regardless of abilities, will have equal access to the curriculum. These grants build on the Assistive Technology Project, first funded through a Statewide Impact Grant in FY98.
