Project Description
The unit, entitled "Self-Portrait Series", consisted of a variety of activities related to self-discovery, identity, and cultural origins. While learning new techniques in Adobe Photoshop 7.0 as well as various approaches to photographing portraits, students were required to produce a series of self-portraits involving diverse approaches, as well as an artist statement about their series. Students investigated three approaches: 'inner' self-portrait, 'outer' self-portrait, and 'inner-outer' self-portrait. Through their investigations of each approach, students reflected on their own likes and dislikes, aspirations, relationships, cultural origins, and projected identities, ultimately coming to terms with, hopefully, a stronger sense of self.
