Project background: Susan Young developed this unit as a result of training she received through Boston's SELECT Math project (http://boston.k12.ma.us/teach/technology/select/). This ongoing project was designed through a collaboration with the district's technology and math departments, with a core group of staff working together to align web-based virtual manipulatives to Boston's math curriculum. As of 2004, over 200 teachers have been trained to use virtual manipulatives in math instruction, enabling them to earn digital projectors for use in their classrooms.
