Evidence of Effectiveness

Instructional objective: Students will explore the interior motor rhythms of Baroque music using modern elements of percussion and digital sound.

Evaluation: Assessment was based upon the quality and creativity of the students' rhythm patterns. Quality was measured in terms of whether or not the drum rhythm added or detracted from the keyboard melody. Creativity was measured by the detail and subtleties that were present in the drum rhythm.

Student improvement: This lesson encouraged students who may have had little to no musical training and who otherwise might have needed to study music theory before beginning to compose music. Students were able to successfully compose a rhythm using a digital sequencing program.
