Georgia O'Keeffe Inspired Art New Salem-Wendell Regional School District
Evidence of Effectiveness
Instructional objective: Students will understand that art is made in many forms, from traditional paint and paper to digital manipulation with technology to create new forms of art.
Evaluation: During this project the teachers informally assessed students' skills in the following areas: visual art, oral presentation, and technology. The art instructor assessed students' ability to sketch what they saw, identify a Georgia O'Keeffe print, and use color and materials to create artwork. The art instructor also assessed students' ability to speak about their work in class and at a community presentation. To determine how well students understood and recalled the technology used, each student was asked to explain to the art instructor the steps he or she went through to create the chosen piece of computer-generated work.
Student improvement: The mastering of simple image editing tools seemed to result in more confident artists, in both traditional and non-traditional arts. Students were more willing to take risks in their creation of new art works because they knew their original artwork would not be harmed. Students appeared to have developed a higher level of comfort in their own abilities.
