2015-19 Equity Plan
The Equity Plan, required of all states by the US Education Department, identifies and lays out plans to eliminate the inequities in student access to excellent teachers and principals. The plan was created with the input of diverse stakeholders, including teachers, principals, district leaders, parents, and representatives of English Learners and Students with Disabilities. After analyzing data on gaps in student access to educators, and root causes of the gaps, ESE developed four key strategies:
Educator Preparation - changes to the process of approving Educator Preparation Programs, and monitoring the outcomes of these programs
Educator Evaluation System - support for the successful implementation of the new evaluation system
Student Learning Experience Report - a forthcoming report that will provide data on how often students or groups of students have been assigned to teachers with various characteristics
Educator Effectiveness Guidebook for Inclusive Practices - tools to improve teaching of students with diverse learning needs, and to increase the inclusion of Students with Disabilities in general education classrooms
In addition, the plan describes several ongoing initiatives at ESE that also address gaps in student access to excellent educators.
