Useful WIDA ELD Standards Resources from the Download Library

The World-class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) consortium's website has a variety of resources for understanding and using the WIDA English Language Development standards. Navigating the WIDA consortium's Download Library can be a daunting task at first. The resources listed below can be used as a type of recommended reading list for educators new to the WIDA ELD standards who are interested in developing a deeper understanding of the framework's components and how to apply them into classroom instruction and assessment.

Developing a basic understanding of the WIDA standards

  • WIDA 2012 Amplified ELD Standards - Provides information about the main components of the WIDA ELD standards framework, including the foundational Features of Academic Language, revised Performance Definitions, Expanded Model Performance Indicators (MPIs).

  • Understanding the WIDA ELP Standards: A Resource Guide - Outlines key components and theoretical foundations of the standards, along with practical examples of how to transform MPIs and rubrics for scoring writing and speaking skills.

  • ELP Standards PreK-Grade 5 and ELP Standards Grades 6-12 - Contain multiple examples of MPIs across grade levels and content areas that can be transformed to differentiate activities and assessments for English language learners at different proficiency levels.
