English Language Learners
Basic WIDA Training of Trainers (ToT)
The purpose of these trainings is to familiarize school and district staff with the new WIDA English Language Development Standards that replace the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Benchmarks and Outcomes (ELPBO).
- understanding the basic foundational principles that undergird the WIDA standards
- organization, structure, and implementation of the WIDA English Language Development Standards for language and content instruction
- use of key components of the WIDA framework to plan differentiated instruction for ELLs
- designing professional development about the WIDA standards for district and school staff
Participants in the Basic WIDA ToT will be equipped to develop professional development for additional district and school staff. This training will be most useful for district curriculum leaders - English Language Learner Program Coordinator/Supervisor, a District Curriculum Supervisor, an ESL Lead Teacher - or equivalent district staff who is regularly in charge of coordinating professional development for the district.
Additionally, participants interested in learning some background information on the standards can go to WIDA's website to gather background information on the standards prior to the trainings. Two useful videos to watch are:
