Managing Behavior in the Inclusive Classroom

Audience: General Educators, Special Educators, Related Service Providers, and Paraprofessionals working in all Grades
This institute will focus on providing professionals in the field of education with information on how to effectively manage behaviors in inclusive elementary and secondary classrooms. State and federal regulations related to manifestation determination, functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIP) will be introduced in this institute. Understanding the effects of a positive classroom environment including: physical space, positive interactions, classroom management and response to challenging behaviors will be incorporated into the design of a BIP. This course will provide information on effective instructional, curricular and assessment methodologies (UDL, Cooperative Learning) along with Models of School Change (responsive classroom, PBIS). This institute will include 5 days during June and 3 follow-up days in fall 2008. Graduate credits are available through Fitchburg State College for $225/course.
