Measurement for Grades 1-2

Learning Standards

Students engage in problem solving, communicating, reasoning, connecting, and representing as they:

Identify parts of the day (e.g., morning, afternoon, evening), days of the week, and months of the year. Identify dates using a calendar. cross symbol
Tell time at quarter-hour intervals on analog and digital clocks using a.m. and p.m. cross symbol
Compare the length, weight, area, and volume of two or more objects by using direct comparison. cross symbol
Measure and compare common objects using metric and English units of length measurement, e.g., centimeter, inch. cross symbol
Select and correctly use the appropriate measurement tools, e.g., ruler, balance scale, thermometer. cross symbol
Make and use estimates of measurement, including time, volume, weight, and area. solid circle symbol


Exploratory Concepts and Skills

  • Explore measurable attributes of objects, including length, perimeter, weight, area, volume, and temperature. Compare concrete objects using these measures.
