Discipline - Technology/Engineering

Core Idea - Technological Systems

[HS.ETS.3.5] - Analyze how the design of a building is influenced by thermal conditions such as wind, solar angle, and temperature. Give examples of how conduction, convection, and radiation are considered in the selection of materials for buildings and in the design of a heating system.

Resources:

Predecessor Standards:

  • 6.ETS.2.1
Analyze and compare properties of metals, plastics, wood, and ceramics, including flexibility, ductility, hardness, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and melting point.
  • 7.PS.3.6
Use a model to explain how thermal energy is transferred out of hotter regions or objects and into colder ones by convection, conduction, and radiation.

Successor Standards:

No Successor Standards found.

Same Level Standards:

  • WCA.9-10.9
Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis, interpretation, reflection, and research. (See grades 9-10 Reading Standard 1 for more on the use of textual evidence.)
