Financial Literacy Pilot Program
Fund Code: 740

Purpose: The purpose of this state-funded Financial Literacy Pilot Program continuation grant is to support the 10 districts in Gateway municipalities implement financial literacy high school course programs that engage high school students in developing personal financial knowledge and skills for college and career readiness. Specifically, this second-year implementation grant is to conduct the course and related program activities developed in the first year of the pilot program.
Eligibility: Eligibility is limited to the 10 districts previously funded to participate in the Financial Literacy Pilot Program. These districts include:
  • Fall River Public Schools
  • Haverhill, Public Schools
  • Holyoke Public Schools
  • Lowell Public Schools
  • Lynn Public Schools
  • Quincy Public Schools
  • Revere Public Schools
  • Salem Public Schools
  • Springfield Public Schools
  • Worcester Public Schools
Funding: A total of $200,000 is available for this grant program in FY15, with approximately $20,000 available per school district. This is the second implementation year in the development of a 3-year pilot program for 10 school districts on financial literacy education. Subsequent years will be pending availability of funds.
Fund Use: Funds may be used for:
  • Stipends for educators
    • to participate in professional development in financial literacy i.e. workshops, seminars, etc. (This may be in the form of substitutes or stipends.)
    • to participate in financial literacy team meetings
    • to co-plan the pilot program
    • to evaluate, review, select and/or develop curricular materials
    • to develop criteria for evaluation of the program
  • Materials, supplies, and technology (for trainings or professional development)
  • Purchase of student classroom materials
  • Substitutes
  • Consultants
  • Travel/mileage (in-state)

Funds may not be used for:

  • Salaries
  • Out-of-state travel
  • Fringe benefits
  • Food or beverages
