Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2016

Curriculum and Assessment Partnership
Fund Code: 219

Purpose: The purpose of this non-competitive grant program is to fund specific strategic initiatives that will improve the state's lowest achieving schools and districts, and support their continuous cycle of improvement.

This grant program is aligned with the state's overarching goal:

  • To prepare all students for success after high school

These grant funds will contribute to that goal by supporting the following state strategy:

  • Turning around the lowest performing districts and schools

Eligible schools and districts will be able to apply throughout the year as needs emerge and funds become available. Applications are only accepted from schools and districts that have demonstrated financial need through multiple criteria determined by the Department, including ongoing communication and interaction with the Department relative to school and district accountability status and ongoing data analysis.

The grant is available to fund activities relative to coordinating curriculum and assessment needs across the Five District Partnership of Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Revere, and Winthrop Public Schools.

Grant applicants must: 1) describe the accomplishments of the Five District Partnership and its progress toward meeting its goals, including the role of the Executive Administrator position in these efforts; and 2) describe the goals, activities, and expected outcomes planned for FY 2016, including identification and description of early evidence of change, intermediate benchmarks and long-term evidence of success to monitor progress toward the grant program goals; how the Partnership and the Executive Administrator position will be monitored; as well as how the project will: a) align with one or more of the Massachusetts District Standards & Indicators, b) share promising practices beyond the participating districts; and c) document accomplishments.

Priorities: Priority will be given to specific Level 4 and/or Level 3 schools and districts that have been identified under the state's Framework for Accountability and Assistance.
Eligibility: This grant is available to Level 3 and 4 schools and districts only. The Department will list on this grant posting, on a rolling basis, schools and or districts and their designated grant allocations. Grants will only be approved after programmatic and budgetary reviews by Department staff (as noted above).
  • Chelsea Public Schools - Fund Code 219 for $70,000 from State Targeted Assistance funds.
Funding: $70,000 is available through State Targeted Assistance funds.
Fund Use: Fund use must be consistent with the priorities described above and requirements associated with the following funding sources:

State Targeted Assistance Funds may be used to support priority strategic professional development and assistance initiatives designed to raise performance in eligible districts and any of their schools. State Targeted Assistance funds may be used through June 30, 2016.

All expenditures will be closely reviewed as they relate to the priorities of this grant opportunity.

Funds may not be used to provide refreshments.
