Adult Basic Education -Workplace Education Instructional Grants

Purpose:

The purpose of this (Phase 1) grant program is for partnerships among education providers, business partners and unions (where the workforce is unionized) to jointly conduct a systematic analysis of the readiness of the partnership to deliver a quality instructional program. This Workplace Needs Analysis includes a plan to:
  • Identify needs for instructional services for adult incumbent workers lacking basic foundation skills from ABE/literacy, pre-adult secondary education, and adult secondary education including preparation up to and including high school equivalency

  • Identify needs for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) services for limited English speakers

  • Assess the readiness of the business partner to support an educational program that meets the basic skills needs of its incumbent workforce; and

  • Plan for instructional services including program components, such as recruitment, assessment, curriculum development, data collection, team governance and evaluation.

All grant-funded workplace education programs address the Department's overarching goal of preparing ABE students for success in their next steps, within the context of career readiness.
