Transition to Full-Day Kindergarten Grant

Purpose: The purpose of the state-funded Transition to Full-Day Kindergarten grant is to encourage the voluntary expansion of high-quality full-day kindergarten classrooms across Massachusetts. The grant is intended to assist districts with the preparation needed during fiscal year 2016 (FY16), so that they will be able to implement full-day kindergarten at the start of the 2016-2017 school year (FY17).

Result of Funding: This grant will support four public school districts to transition nine part-day kindergarten sessions to become full-day kindergarten classrooms in September 2016. Awards are anticipated to create full-day kindergarten opportunities for approximately 140 students starting in September 2016. Funds will be used to support the transition to full-day kindergarten preparation efforts, including but not limited to: adjustments to curriculum, instruction and assessment practices to reflect a full-day kindergarten schedule, professional development, alignment with preschool and grades 1-3, family and community engagement, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation activities, and transition activities into kindergarten and from kindergarten into first grade. Grant awards range from $3,000 to $40,000.
