Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2017

Workplace Education Planning Grants
Fund Code: 494

Purpose: The purpose of this grant program is to provide contextualized ABE/ESOL basic skills workplace instructional services to incumbent workers lacking the basic foundation skills expected of a high school graduate and/or who are limited English proficient.
Priorities: The priority is to support programs that deliver instructional services through partnerships among business (including labor organizations), workers and education providers. These partnerships are supported by a combination of state and employer matching resources for a maximum of three years.
Eligibility: Eligible recipients are those programs that were funded in FY 2016 and can document evidence of continuing need for Adult Basic Education instruction in the workforce.

The following five workplace education partnerships are eligible to apply for the grant awards listed:

Funding: World Education and Seaport Hotel—$79,505
Asian American Civic Association and Piantedosi Bakery—$80,587
JVS and The Boston Home—$80,000
Bristol Community College and Blount Fine Foods, Raw Seafoods, Inc, Klear Vu Corporation, and John Matouk and Co.—$66,462
Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. and JP Fuji Group—$41,000
Note: Administrative costs must not exceed 20%.
Fund Use: Funds must be used for collaborations between/among businesses (e.g., consortia and an education provider).
