Title II-B: Massachusetts Mathematics and Science Partnerships Program

Purpose: The purpose of this grant program is to improve student achievement in science, technology/engineering and mathematics through intensive, high-quality professional development activities that focus on deepening teachers' content knowledge. Funded programs will be eligible for two additional years of funding based on yearly progress towards meeting their established goals and objectives and the availability of federal funding. In years two and three of the program, recipients may receive additional funds depending on the number of course offerings.

Result of Funding: This grant award will fund five partnerships that include nine high need school districts, mathematics and science departments at institutions of higher education, and other partners. This year, these partnerships will involve 368 teachers who are currently teaching science, technology/engineering and mathematics, as well as teachers of English Language Learners and students with disabilities. Substantial courses of study will be offered for K-12 teachers to enhance their content knowledge in mathematics and science. Follow-up activities such as learning communities and online collaborative work are an integral part of the grants in order to support the implementation of the content from the courses into the classroom.
