Mathematics and Special Education Leadership Team Program

Purpose: The purpose of this federally-funded Mathematics and Special Education Leadership Team grant is to provide funds to support districts' efforts to improve classroom instruction in mathematics for students with disabilities in grades three through eight. The goal of the grant is to establish a school-based leadership team comprised of school-based mathematics and special educators and administrators with district representation who will collaborate to support improved mathematics instruction for students with disabilities.

Result of Funding:This grant award will fund the development of mathematics and special education leadership teams in 11 schools that are part of 8 high need school districts. This year, these grants will involve 61 educational leaders and provide professional development to 178 school-based staff. The whole-school model of this program will affect 420 teachers and over 5,000 students in grades 3 through 8. The schools have integrated these grant activities with their current school improvement plans, collaboration efforts, and district initiatives. The special education coaches will be prepared to facilitate follow-up activities to support the implementation of accessibility strategies consistently into classroom instruction in mathematics.
