Transition to Full-Day Kindergarten Grant (REVISED)

Purpose: The purpose of the state-funded Transition to Full-Day Kindergarten grant is to encourage the voluntary expansion of high-quality full-day kindergarten classrooms across Massachusetts. The grant is intended to assist districts with the preparation needed during fiscal year 2012 (FY2012), so that they will be able to implement full-day kindergarten at the start of the 2012-2013 school year (FY2013).

Result of Funding: This grant will support 11 public school districts to transition 62 part-day kindergarten sessions to become full-day kindergarten classrooms in September 2012. Awards to these 11 public school districts are anticipated to create full-day kindergarten opportunities for more than 1,200 students in September 2012. Funds will be used to support the transition to full-day kindergarten, including but not limited to: adjustments to curriculum, instruction and assessment practices to reflect a full-day kindergarten schedule, professional development, alignment with preschool and grades 1-3, family and community engagement, National for the Association of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation activities, and transition activities into kindergarten and from kindergarten into first grade.
