ARRA Title IID Professional Development Grants

Purpose: The purpose of this five month federal grant program is to enhance and deliver an online professional development course designed, developed, and piloted by Round 1 grant recipients. The enhancement and course revision include adapting the program evaluator's recommendations and the Department's content specialists' feedback. After finalizing the course, the new grant recipient will work with the Department to deliver the course in the summer of 2012 as an online professional development institute to assist teachers in closing the achievement gap in their schools and improving student learning.

Result of Funding: This program will support Worcester Public Schools in partnering with the WGBH Educational Foundation and the Western Massachusetts Writing Project at UMass Amherst to enhance and deliver an online course on persuasive writing. Approximately nine educators will participate in the enhancement of this course. This online course will be offered to approximately twenty five teachers across the state as part of the Department's Professional Development Institutes during the summer of 2012. The course will be owned by the Department so that it can be repeated as needed.
