Adult Basic Education Programs for Incarcerated Adults

The purpose of this federally and state funded continuation grant program is to establish free access to Adult Basic Education (ABE) services for offenders, age 16 or older, who are in correctional institutions across the Commonwealth. Services will enhance the ability of institutionalized offenders to read, write, and speak English and to compute and solve problems at levels of proficiency equivalent to a high school diploma and necessary to function in society upon release from the correctional facility. Students will achieve their goals and develop their potential as individuals and as citizens.
ABE Instructional Programs for Incarcerated Adults that have demonstrated the capacity to provide effective ABE services to the incarcerated and other institutionalized adults.
Eligible applicants are FY2011 recipients of awards under the Instructional Educational Programs for the Incarcerated and other grant programs for Institutionalized Adults that meet state and federal program and funding criteria.

Funds must be used for ABE instructional services for incarcerated adults.

Note:Due to pending changes in the ESE Grants Management system, applicants may have to resubmit these and other pages in a new online form. In that case, ESE will provide training to successful applicants on the resubmission process.
